After getting our COVID booster shot today we headed into the New Forest. Cadmams pool near Stoney Cross Airfield. Opened in 1942, it served both the Royal Air Force and United States Army 9Air Forces. During WW2 it functioned primarily as a combat bomber and fighter airfield. It closed in January 1948.
Locals routinely leave birdseed on the ground or on posts in the copse next to the pond, So it is a good place to spot some of our small woodland birds close up.
Male Chaffinch.
Nuthatch.
Coal Tit.
Robin.
Marsh Tit.
Marsh Tits and Willow Tits are very similar and difficult to tell apart, here at Chapmans Pool it was the Marsh Tit enjoying the sunflower seeds.
You are never far from deer or fungi in the New Forest.

Nice images of Marsh Tit. We don’t have that species in California. (I was wondering if you were going to get a booster shot. I’m scheduled today.)

👍 Still being careful here in UK – feel safer with full vaccine programme protection. I am sure it will end up like flue jab with a yearly booster.

I was hoping it would fade away like SARS. It’s very hard to predict though you are probably correct about the yearly shot. I think I mentioned before that Moderna is developing a combo vaccine which suggests that COVID is here to stay. I received the Moderna booster this morning.

I got my Moderna booster the day after it was allowed for 65+ … I was glad to take it as we are the worst state in the nation right now for not only COVID cases/deaths, but also the flu. Got a shot for that as well in September. Your little Coal Tit is like our cute Chickadee and I always like your Robins better than ours which are huge.

Stay safe Linda. I remember looking you your Robins and Chickadee when you mentioned them before.

You too Andy – I’m always masked up, even when just outside doing yard work, shoveling snow – you never know who stops by to chat. I just read on a friend’s Facebook page of a guy who had all three shots and now has COVID. Your little Robins are cute – ours have a lot of attitude!

Fabulous close-up photos of the birds and fungi! It’s cool to see the bird with its mouth open and the wing above its head. Those are sights you don’t see much.
What a cool cluster of fungi. Growing like crazy…
