Sunday morning walk up the Hamble River. With the arrival of the Brent Geese and large numbers of Wigeon, we can conclude winter has arrived. The Dunlin have lost their black chests and now sport their winter plumage.

We had some very wet and grey days. I lucked out on Sunday morning with a bright hour a about 0700hrs.

This was a good outing for you Andy – quite a collection of beautiful shore birds you have here.

It makes it all worthwhile then, especially as the colder, damper weather sets in … you must be off on another excursion this morning as it’s so early there.

At the moment we are getting more days that are a wash out with rain so have to make the most of any good days that we get. Today and start of week not looking good at the moment.

I see – that’s too bad. Our weather has not been to my liking either Andy. We had a lot of rain earlier in the year, but now if it isn’t snow, it is freezing rain/freezing fog, very high winds and bitterly cold. My walking regimen has not been consistent and I’m glad I got a lot of photos earlier in the Fall, as I may have run out this Winter. I hope your weather improves … nature helps us to keep our balance in this crazy world.

Nice selection of shots and a great variety. Where exactly is the Hamble River? I assume it’s southern England – near Portsmouth?

Hi Bob. The tidal part runs from Warsash on Southampton to Bursledon
