Today Calsholt Castle was open so I could get some good views of Southampton Water from the castle roof. This small artillery fort was built by Henry VIII to defend the entrance to Southampton Water. It served as an RAF and Military base and was active during and between the wars.

There were times in history when a boat sailing past the fort flying the French flag would have had the guns of the fort firing at it!

I bet instead of guns firing they still at least grumble about them going past! Cool float plane model but piss poor mattress!

Wayne the bedding was poor! The float plane is Supermarine S6A Record Breaking Schneider Trophy Racer from 1929. great lines.

The poor pilot sure didn’t have much of a view and the undercarriage looks like it’s seen better days.

An interesting piece of history. I would hate to be French and cross in front of that big gun.
