It was nice to see two Great White Egrets at Tichfield Haven on Thursday. Although they were on the far side of the reserve I was able to get some pictures, they are large birds about the same size as a Grey Heron.
Population:
UK breeding:8-12 pairs
UK wintering:72 birds






that’s it for numbers for the UK? It must have been a rare treat!

Yes Wayne. The little Egret is common now in the UK but The Great White Egret is very low in number although expect if it follows the Little Egret its numbers will increase. It was a treat – and 2 on the same lake.
