MHI Vestas, employs around 50 people at the former Fawley Power Station site. The company brings wind turbine blades to Fawley by special boat. The blades are manufactured on the Isle of Wight, where more than 700 people are employed. Each blade is 262 feet long. They are stored at Fawley after being finished and painted. They are then taken by sea to Portsmouth where they are then taken on to their wind farm sites.

Wow!! Its sheer size is impressive and frightening.

Amazing to see up close. I went on a Panama Canal cruise in 1982 and we could stand on the edge of the ship for a great look as the ship passed thru the Canal – it took the entire day to do so.

Yes, it was Andy. The Canal transit was interesting – very hot and I got up early and picked a spot out of the direct sun, took a lot of photos and the film processing place I took them to, lost the rolls of film for the Transit. I was able to get some photos from the ship’s photographer a few months later – they take them and people don’t always buy them. The film place was one of those one-hour places and your only recourse is you get a fresh roll of film.

Yes horrible Andy – I kept saying “but this an in-house processing company; how could you lose two rolls of film?” People who only use digital cameras have no conception of that dilemma.
