In the New Forest, Forestry England conducts controlled burning of heather and gorse. This helps maintain and enhance heartland habitats. It promotes biodiversity and reduces wildfire risk.

They should have done that here in Oklahoma with their outbreak of wildfires this past weekend … 4 dead, 142 injured and 400 homes destroyed. The pictures/videos I saw were as bad, if not worse, than the California wildfires a few months ago.

Although the New Forest is a wild place it is managed to keep it prime condition and I am sure control burning stops what happened in some parts of the USA where wildfires led to such loss of life and peoples homes.
