Further to my post last week re Black-headed gull chicks
Link below.
The next pictures show how hard it is for the chicks. A much larger Lesser Black-backed gull swoops down and snatches a chick. As this happened, the Black-headed gull colony erupted into the air, but they failed to save their baby.

Pictures taken by my brother Simon Finnegan {I missed this, although I have seen it happen in the past.}
I’m sorry to see that the chick was snatched, but your brother captured it all brilliantly.

Nature is always hard, we only see 0.1% of what is going on all the time.

Yes, sometimes nature spots just seem to be a lucky spot. Sometimes, I wonder what you just miss by looking the wrong way or starting a walk 10 minutes later.

Oh that is sad – I would hate to see that happen before my eyes. I always worried “my” squirrels would meet that fate as Coopers Hawks have become more prevalent at Council Point Park; it’s a moot point now as there are so few squirrels there now since they tore up the Park so horribly a year ago.
