A walk from Lynmouth up the river towards Watersmeet.

We have been away for a few days on Exmoor in the campervan. An objective of our trip was to see if I could find some Dippers. Dippers are a short-tailed, plump birds found on fast-flowing rivers and streams. When perched on a rock it habitually bobs up and down and frequently cocks its tail. They can be seen bobbing up and down on a stone in the fast-flowing river. They feed on underwater insects by walking straight into, and under, the water.

As well as several adult birds I also saw a juvenile bird.

There was also a family of Grey Wagtails on the river walk.

What engagingly adorable little birds. Great captures.

Well, you were successful and got the Dipper, plus more birds. I was thinking how white that bird’s chest feathers were, then the next bird was mottled and I thought it was dirty from going under water, but guess it was because you said it was a juvenile. I have been hearing a lot over here about the UK’s heat wave.

The heat wave ended on the Sunday with rain – we went away on the Monday for 2 nights but did not prevent some nice day out in Wet country.

They kept saying the UK was stifling hot and now, it seems, this was the hottest week on record globally. We’re finally having a decent day tomorrow after scorching hot weather and storms all week.
