Interesting watching a Little Egret catching dragonflies at Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve. A large dragonfly is more of a small fish. Something I have not observed before – I was able to capture some of the hunting on video which I filmed in slow motion.

Oh my … the wings were still whirring when it was in its mouth. The first dragonfly almost escaped! Interesting that these dragonflies are so big and “meaty”.

Yes they seemed to be a better meal than the the tidy fish he was catching prior to moving onto the dragonflies.

The day after your post and my comment, I had tree cutters here at the house to take down two trees and some assorted bushes and trees from the downed wire fire last December. So, all the marshes I go to, I’ve seen two dragonflies. I walked out into the backyard to go over what the workers were to do and the crew is standing gazing at my back window where a huge dragonfly was sitting there on the ledge. I almost went in for the camera. None of them knew what it was. Thought you’d enjoy that story. 🙂
