I had an unexpected and strange meeting with some free-range Domestic guinea fowl in the New Forest this morning. They were happy roaming in the woodland.

I saw some a few years ago Andy (Lavender Guinea Pea Fowl variety) and all four are residents of the petting farm at Heritage Park and they “escaped” momentarily. Aren’t they the most peculiar-looking birds and their voices are so high!

Yes you can not mistake what they are. These had wandered front a nearby cottage they seemed to know the way home.

Same with these – the caretaker brought a bag of grain, shook it vigorously and they hightailed it after him as he walked back to the barn. They seem to have some personality. I read up on them after that and learned that some farmers keep them as watchdogs – they are very vocal when they perceive something is wrong!
