It’s fascinating to me the reach of the Roman Empire during the Iron Age. I wonder if that fort was manned by Roman soldiers?

reading online David found “Extensive archaeology has been undertaken in the Meon Valley and on Old Winchester Hill revealing evidence of settlement by iron- and bronze-age Celts (Ancient Britons), Romans and Saxons.” There are also old Roman roads passing close to the site.
