Beautiful and unique – I like when you post pics of them. The poor female is drab in comparison, kind of like our Wood Ducks … the male is brilliantly colored but the only way you can tell the female is a Wood Duck is the white ring around its eyes.
Unfortunately with female birds, they get the bunt end of the stick insofar as vibrant colors. 🙂 I was excited to see a pair of Wood Ducks on land and will have them in this week’s post. A treat for me as I’d only seen the male far away before that.

We get the odd wood duck here so I have seen them I know what you mean.
