Swallow Family.

Swallows are small birds. They are extremely agile in flight and spend most of their time in the air. They are widespread breeding birds in the Northern Hemisphere and migrate south in winter. This family has left their nest and is being fed in a tree. They were a joy to watch on today’s walk in the New Forest.

An adult swallow.

  1. They resemble our Barn Swallows and I’m always amazed how they catch insects in the air, but wow – I didn’t know they fed their young by hovering in mid-air as well. Very interesting video and pictures Andy. Those chicks with their open mouths … all baby birds are so needy and seem to have a “bottomless pit” when it comes to being fed.
