Today our walk in the New Forest yielded the UK’s largest Deer the Red Deer. In the forest, numbers are maintained around 90 animals.
Size: Up to 1.37 metres at the shoulder, length from nose to tail is 2.01m in males.

Wonderful Andy. I envy all the photos you get of deer. The hunters here keep the deer so stirred up – a person seldom sees a deer. I see a lot of deer tracks in my garden, but never see a deer.

Sure the Roe deer down the road from us have suffered from poaching sadly. The New Forest is National Park so we are lucky there to see lots of these great creatures.

Another great place to see Red Deer is Wollaton Park in Nottingham. The herd is about 80 strong. There is also a Fallow Deer herd.
