The Little Egret is a small, white heron. They feed on small fish and crustaceans. Once a very rare visitor from the Mediterranean but today they are a common bird in the UK. I often see more Little egrets than Grey Herons on a trip out.

this may be more an example of how the northern areas are warming and so allowing species to spread out to “greener” pastures.

I thinks so Wayne. Living on the South Coast we are seeing new European birds coming our way each year.

Beautiful photos. We have a cattle Egret here that is totally white and seems smaller than the egret you have photographed.

Hi Peggy -We are starting to get Cattle Egret here now yes they are quite small compared to the Little Egret although I have only seen one once.

Surprised you are getting cattle egrets. I guess all of us are going to see different species of birds move into our countries.
